Continuing its commitment to youth wellbeing during Mental Health Awareness Week, the JAB Foundation conducted a School Outreach Program at Harmony Secondary School in Lokoja, Nigeria. The event created a warm and welcoming environment where students felt free to learn, ask questions, and speak openly about mental health, often a topic surrounded by silence and misunderstanding.
The session opened with Founder Prof. Jacqueline Azumi Badaki, who introduced the Foundation's mission and vision to the students, giving them insight into the values driving the organization's work in communities across the region. She was joined by consultant psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Ajogbon, who led an engaging discussion using specially designed flash cards centered on mental health awareness. Through this interactive approach, students explored what mental health truly means, how to understand and process their emotions, and how to recognize signs of emotional distress in themselves and those around them. A central message of the day was that reaching out for support is not a weakness but a powerful act of courage and self-awareness.
Beyond the core lessons, the outreach placed strong emphasis on kindness and empathy, encouraging students to look out for one another and to actively challenge the stigma that often prevents young people from discussing mental health openly.
Reflecting on the outreach, Prof. Jacqueline Azumi Badaki reaffirmed the Foundation's ongoing dedication to empowering young people through education, awareness, and community centered initiatives that champion emotional wellbeing and healthy living.
At the JAB Foundation, we hold firmly the belief that we can build a future where every young mind thrives.
Our sincere thanks go to Harmony Secondary School for warmly hosting us during this impactful Mental Health Awareness School Outreach.
